Manchester United : Premier League Season Review 2016/17

Premier League 2015/16 did not end well for us as we ended up 5th in the table and dropped to Europa League qualification stage. The only good thing in the end was FA Cup win which was a bit of a morale booster but Louis Van Gaal could not save his job.

The season 2016/17 started on a very good note;
4 good signings in our key areas:
1) Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Player of the Year 2016 - Ligue 1)
2) Paul Pogba (Midfielder of the Year 2016 - Serie A)
3) Henrikh Mkhitaryan (Midfielder of the Year 2016 - Bundesliga)
4) Eric Baily (CAF Team of the Year 2016 - Africa)

Jose Mourinho started off the campaign by Winning Community Shield against last year's Premier League Champion Liecester City. The good spirit continued in the first month as we won the first three games in Premier League. The winning streak came to an end when we lost to Manchester City at Old Trafford and then a back to back defeat against Watford away from home.

The worst game for United was away at Stamford Bridge when we lost 4-0 to a spirited Chelsea and Jose was completely outclassed by Antonio Conte. That Shocking defeat came as a timely reminder to United as from then onwards United had a record 25 games unbeaten in the Premier league. The record contained 12 Draws out of 25 which was one of the main reasons United could not finish in top 4.

Positives
Paul Pogba - Our Midfield BEAST and in his abscence we realized how much we missed him
Marcus Rashford - Coming off age and bearing the responsibility in Zlatan's abscence
Ander Herrera - Future Captain , Mr. Dependable
25 Games Unbeaten and 5 losses only

Negatives
English Players - Wayne Rooney, Luke Shaw, Smalling & Phil Jones
15 Draws (most of them against bottom half of the table)
Lacked the instinct of killing off games
Poor finishing and injuries

Goalie of the Season
De Gea

Defender of the Season
Eric Baily

Midfielder of the season
Paul Pogba

Forward of the season
Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Player of the Season
Zlatan Ibrahimovic / Antonio Valencia

Goal of the Season

Best Game of the Season:
Against Leicester City at Home (4-1)

Worst Game of the Season:
Against Chelsea away (4-0)

Future

We performed below par in Premier League and as a result we are 6th on the table but
I am very hopeful for th future considering lots of Academy lads are performing consistently well and getting their chances as well.
As for future Players to come in ,
I believe it will be highly dependent on winning the Europa League (In sha ALLAH) and then we could take a sigh of relief and consider this season as moderate if not successful.

Lets hope for the best and pray for our club to win UEL 2016/17 , in sha ALLAH !
