SHISHA – FASHION OR ADDICTION ?

Image
In the last 6-7 years, I have personally noticed the growing trend of shisha smoking in Karachi. I remember I first time I puffed shisha at a friend’s bbq party, I coughed like for 3-4 times continuously. Maybe the reason was that I don't smoke or whatever, but that gave me a feel of having smoked an entire cigarette with a single puff ! Recently, I was with my friend at M.A. Society near kaybees, where I saw a bunch of class 8 students discussing various things while smoking shisha. The way they were discussing various adult rated issues was kind of alarming and the worst thing was that all of them had bunked their tuition and collected money for smoking shisha ! Me and my friend were astonished to see such careless attitude towards studies, we blamed media, parents, independence etc but the thing which we ignored was that those kids were ruining their life by smoking shisha.  I believe that this habit has turned out to be a fashion or the ‘IN THING’ these days, rather...

PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS

Image
I have always been the oyster   (someone who keeps secrets)  to many secrets or you can say that I have been very discreet when it comes to discussing secrets of others. After having a detailed analysis of my past experiences with lots of people and friends, I have come to a conclusion that one common thing is that everyone has problems; irrespective of being small or big, but the fact is that everyone have problems! Its not about being pessimistic or too complaining about little issues, its not about being the crybaby but the reality is one day or the other  we all do complain  about  petty issues  and that’s a  FACT . We all do complain, think too much and then get depress because we accumulate a lot of other grievances and frustrations all together. So, I have come to two conclusions on my own but I surely believe they work to great extent: 1) Most of us are not lonely, tense or depress (unless one intentionally decides to be)...

IDEAS FOR PAKISTAN

Image
Recent visit of our Prime Minister to US for UN meeting and the response we received from USA made me write this article. I am neither a Financial/Political Analyst nor a Economist but I guess being a Pakistani I have every right to share my opinion. There is a lot for discussion but I’d try to keep it short, simple and straight forward. Basically there are number of areas where I’d like our “Leaders” to put emphasis. 1) Education When we talk about education, I mean the education in general. We do have number of good universities and institutes but overall the numbers are not so commendable. The country which has produced the gems like   Babar Iqbal ,   Arfa Karim, Mehroz Yawar and Ali Moeen Nawazish   to name a few, means we have the talent to compete at international level but to nurture such talent you need quality educational institutes and superior quality teachers. Institutes like   TCF – The Citizens Foundation   are providing quality educatio...

Time repeats itself !

The incident or story which I am going to share with you is a real life story told by my very close friend. This is 100% true and without any exaggeration, and my friend told this thing as his personal experience which I am sharing with you people.  I would not share the original names since this might not be considered good but all I am going to share is in good spirit and for a purpose. This story is about an old man (Let’s call him Dada) and his children, some people might feel that it’s sounding like movies and especially “Baghban” but trust me it’s a real life incident. Dada has 3 sons; the youngest son (aging around 37-38) is a special person with mental illness and physical disabilities (almost bedridden and can’t speak or stand up without anyone’s support). The eldest son is in Austalia for the last 20+ years and the other son has recently gone to Australia few years back. Dada used to live with dadi and his youngest son (special child, let’s call him Chachu) in K...

LIFE – THE WAY I SEE IT !

What I am going to share with you all is my own learning of life which I have personally experienced, learned, read, visualized or maybe just imagined and that’s all my thoughts cumulatively and collectively bundled up in a single piece of write up. What I have learnt from my life: Life is sometimes cruel but it is not intolerable always One day or the other, everyone is going to hurt you but you have to decide what’s more important the issue or the relation. To avoid jealousy, compete with your own self As beautifully said by Denis Waitley: “The most splendid achievement of all is the constant striving to surpass yourself and to be worthy of your own approval” Competition (jealousy) and friendship can’t go hand in hand Live your best moments with your family and with your friends Listening to someone’s problems might not lessen it but it surely lessens the pain S pending some time with children will give you eternal happiness, the stupidity, the innocence and the charm wh...

Love at First Sight

Image
Last year I went to perform Umrah, while staying at Madinah, we met a family who were our acquaintance through some close relatives. They live somewhere far from Jeddah and came here in their own vehicle. They were 5 members with 3 kids, 2 of them were girls and 1 was a boy. Out of those kids I got attracted towards a girl named Khadija, she was cute, extra slim, a little bit curly haired and bright shiny eyes. I felt she was a bit shy and found her a little bit hesitant towards asking me for a mango which she saw in the fridge. The other two kids were bold enough to ask for mangoes and apples but she silently sat in my lap and did not utter a single word until I asked her. She nodded when I asked if she wanted a mango and gave it to her which she happily took from my hand and ran towards her mother to get it cut with the knife.Maybe I was missing my niece that day but the innocence of that child mesmerized me, I don’t know how it happened but I got attracted to t...

Behind those Grey eyes !

It was one of the coldest nights of this season and I was with my friend yawar to meet one of our friend’s mom. We stopped on a signal, where there was not much traffic maybe due to cold weather. Like every other signal in Karachi, kids gather on the cars to clean windscreen and earn some coins or maybe 10 rupees if they are lucky. A girl aging around 6 to 7 years, wearing worn out shalwar kameez, properly covering her head and face with a torn shawl came to our car and started cleaning our car. Out of habit, Yawar and me, both naturally moved our hands towards the windscreen in order to say “Nahi karo” ! Most of the times the kids either start cleaning the windscreen deliberately or they use some harsh response against that decline but the expression on that kid’s face told a different story. Her face showed a little grievance and maybe in heart she said “yet another car missed”. I was noticing her action suddenly I saw her eyes, they were grey in color, shiny and attractive, asking...
